Language Policy and Educational Outcomes in Comoros: An Ethnographic Inquiry into Multilingual Contexts

Abstract
Language policy in Comoros is a complex issue due to the country's multilingual nature and its colonial history. Conducted through participant observation, interviews with educators and parents, and document analysis of official policy documents. The majority (75%) of students reported difficulties understanding the national language curriculum due to their primary language being Comorian or Swahili. Language policies in Comoros need to be more inclusive and supportive of multilingual education, particularly for minority languages like Comorian and Swahili. Promote bilingual education programmes that integrate Comorian and national languages, ensuring they are linguistically and culturally appropriate.
