Abstract

Diabetic retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes that can lead to vision loss if not managed effectively. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a survey of healthcare providers and qualitative interviews with patients to assess the feasibility and impact of telehealth services. Telehealth initiatives showed promise in terms of increasing access to diabetic retinopathy screening in remote areas, although there were challenges related to infrastructure and patient adherence. While preliminary results indicate potential benefits, further research is needed to validate these findings and optimise the implementation of telehealth solutions for diabetic care in Nigeria. Future studies should prioritise stakeholder engagement, technological upgrades, and cost-sharing mechanisms to ensure sustainable telehealth services. Diabetic Retinopathy, Telehealth, Remote Areas, Nigerian Healthcare Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
