Abstract

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) aims to enhance intra-African trade by eliminating tariffs and other barriers between member countries. A qualitative study employing semi-structured interviews with key industry stakeholders to explore perceptions and experiences related to trade facilitation under the AfCFTA. Egyptian firms reported an increase in export opportunities, particularly towards Southern African countries, due to reduced tariffs and streamlined customs procedures. The AfCFTA has facilitated increased cross-border commerce between Egypt and other Southern African nations, though challenges remain in terms of infrastructure and market integration. Egypt should continue to support regional trade initiatives and invest in improving logistics networks to maximise the benefits of the AfCFTA.
