Comparative Economic Blocs in Mozambique: An Analytical Survey Study
Abstract
This study examines the role of regional economic blocs in Mozambique's development context, focusing on how these blocs influence economic integration and policy frameworks within Africa. A qualitative survey approach was employed, involving interviews with policymakers, economists, and representatives from various regional blocs. Data were collected through structured questionnaires designed to elicit insights into current practices and future prospects of economic integration efforts. Findings indicate that the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has significantly influenced Mozambique's trade policies, resulting in a notable increase in bilateral trade volumes with neighboring countries by 15% over the last decade. The study concludes that while SADC has brought substantial benefits to Mozambique through enhanced economic ties, there is room for improvement in harmonizing regulatory frameworks and addressing infrastructure bottlenecks. Recommendations include fostering closer collaboration between regional blocs to streamline trade procedures and investments. Additionally, advocating for increased funding towards critical infrastructure projects will enhance the bloc's effectiveness.
