Abstract

Ethiopia hosts a diverse range of African universities that play significant roles in knowledge production and dissemination across various disciplines. Qualitative research methods were employed through interviews with university administrators, focus group discussions with students and faculty members, and document analysis of institutional publications. The analysis reveals a notable emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration among Ethiopian universities in addressing socio-economic challenges. Specifically, there is an increasing trend towards producing research outputs that have direct applicability to local development needs. Ethiopian universities are pivotal actors in fostering knowledge production and dissemination, particularly in areas aligned with national priorities such as agriculture, health, and climate change adaptation. Policy recommendations include enhancing institutional collaboration frameworks and providing more resources for research projects that align with local development goals.
