Abstract

Traditional medicine plays a significant role in healthcare systems across Africa, including Morocco, where it is deeply integrated into community practices and traditional knowledge. This action research study employed a participatory approach involving interviews with healthcare practitioners, focus group discussions with patients, and document reviews of government policies related to traditional medicine in Morocco. A notable finding was the significant proportion (75%) of respondents who reported using traditional medicine alongside or instead of conventional medical treatments due to cost considerations and accessibility issues. Traditional medicine remains a vital component of Moroccan healthcare, offering affordable alternatives that complement existing health systems and address specific community needs effectively. The government should consider integrating traditional medicine into its national health policy framework and provide more resources for research and development to enhance its efficacy and safety.
