Abstract

Eastern Uganda is a significant coffee exporting region, facing challenges such as waste generation associated with traditional packaging methods. A mixed-methods approach combining surveys and case studies was employed to gather data from local farmers and industry stakeholders. Farmers reported a 20% increase in revenue when using biodegradable bags, while waste reduction in packaging materials reached up to 35%. Eco-friendly packaging innovations have shown substantial economic benefits for coffee exporters in Eastern Uganda, with notable reductions in waste. Further research and policy support are recommended to scale up these practices across the region. coffee export, sustainable packaging, economic gains, waste reduction
