Digital Preservation Strategies in West African Cultural Heritage amidst Digital Age Challenges in South Sudan
Abstract
Digital preservation strategies are crucial for safeguarding West African cultural heritage in South Sudan, a region where digital age challenges intersect with traditional preservation methods. A comparative study involving interviews with cultural heritage institutions, community leaders, and digital technology experts was conducted using a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. The findings indicate that while some institutions have successfully implemented robust digital preservation strategies, others are lagging behind in terms of technological infrastructure and funding. This study concludes by highlighting the need for increased collaboration between stakeholders to ensure equitable access to digital resources for preserving West African cultural heritage. Recommendations include the establishment of a regional digital preservation network, capacity building programmes, and government support initiatives to enhance digital preservation efforts in South Sudan.
