Abstract

Entrepreneurship in Nigeria's informal sector is a growing field of study with significant implications for economic development and social welfare. This study employed qualitative methods including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with entrepreneurs from various sectors operating within the Lagos informal economy. Interviews revealed a mixed landscape where some entrepreneurs saw substantial growth opportunities but also struggled with regulatory hurdles, limited access to finance, and unreliable supply chains. Themes emerged around the adaptability of business models in response to market demands and government interventions. The findings underscore the resilience and innovation within Lagos' informal sector alongside persistent systemic challenges that require tailored policy responses. Recommendations include the need for targeted financial support, regulatory reforms to ease access to markets, and capacity-building programmes to enhance entrepreneurial capabilities.
