Abstract

The Comoros is an archipelago nation in Eastern Africa facing challenges related to sustainable development, particularly in its business sector. Current policies often lack a holistic approach that considers environmental sustainability and socio-economic impacts. The study employed a qualitative method, reviewing existing policies and conducting interviews with key stakeholders including government officials, business leaders, and environmental experts. The data was analysed using thematic coding. Current sustainable development initiatives show a significant focus on economic growth at the expense of environmental sustainability, as evidenced by a high proportion (80%) of policy documents mentioning economic benefits over ecological ones. The analysis highlights the need for a more balanced approach to business policies that considers both economic and environmental dimensions. Integrate environmental sustainability into business development plans through mandatory reporting on environmental impact, promote public-private partnerships for sustainable projects, and increase funding for green initiatives.
