Abstract

This study explores the role of Community Health Workers (CHWs) in enhancing rural healthcare services in Mozambique’s rural areas. Qualitative research methods were employed, involving semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions conducted among a sample of CHWs in Mozambique’s rural regions. Data analysis used thematic content analysis to identify common themes and patterns. CHWs reported significant challenges such as limited resources and inadequate training, but also achieved notable outcomes like improved maternal health knowledge and increased vaccination rates. The findings highlight the critical need for support and capacity-building initiatives for CHWs in rural Mozambique to sustain healthcare improvements. Policy recommendations include enhancing CHW training programmes and providing more robust logistical support, such as better equipment and funding.
