Ethics and Governance in African AI: A Comparative Study in Kenya

Abstract

The rapid development of AI technologies in Africa has raised concerns about ethical considerations and data governance practices. A comparative study involving interviews with policymakers, technologists, and civil society organizations to assess perceptions and practices. There is a significant disparity (30%) in data access rights between public and private sectors, affecting equitable AI development. Current governance structures are insufficient to address the ethical challenges posed by AI deployment in Kenya. Develop comprehensive regulatory frameworks that prioritise inclusivity and transparency in AI applications.
