Abstract

Maternal and neonatal mortality rates remain high in rural Rwanda despite efforts to improve access to healthcare. The study employed a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data from surveys and administrative records with qualitative interviews to assess CHW activities and their outcomes in rural Rwandan communities. CHWs reported significant reductions in both maternal and neonatal mortality rates, with a 15% decrease in maternal deaths and a 20% reduction in neonatal deaths over the study period. Community health worker programmes have demonstrated substantial positive impacts on reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates in rural Rwanda. Continued investment in CHW training, community engagement, and infrastructure development is recommended to sustain these improvements.
