Abstract
Eco-Waste Recycling Programmes in School Lunches have gained attention for their potential to address food safety and waste management challenges in urban Kenyan secondary schools. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining surveys with qualitative interviews to gather data from secondary schools in urban Kenya. Focus groups were conducted among teachers, parents, and students to understand their perspectives on eco-waste recycling initiatives. The study found that over 70% of participating schools reported improved food safety practices after implementing eco-waste recycling programmes, with a notable decrease in waste management issues such as improper disposal and contamination of school grounds. Eco-Waste Recycling Programmes have shown promising outcomes in enhancing both food safety and waste management in urban Kenyan secondary schools, necessitating further research and implementation across more schools to ensure sustainable practices. School administrators should prioritise the adoption of eco-waste recycling programmes, while community stakeholders should support these initiatives through awareness campaigns and financial assistance. Continuous monitoring and evaluation are recommended for sustained improvements.
