Abstract

This study examines the legal framework governing refugees and asylum seekers in East Africa within Nigeria's jurisdiction. Qualitative research methods were employed through a comprehensive literature review and thematic analysis of existing legal documents. There are significant discrepancies between local laws and international refugee standards, particularly concerning access to basic services such as education and healthcare. The findings highlight the need for harmonization with international conventions to ensure equitable treatment of refugees within Nigerian law. Nigerian authorities should advocate for legislative reforms that align with global refugee protection standards.
