Urban youth in Durban are increasingly engaging with green energy support groups to facilitate their transition towards sustainable living practices. The comparative study employs qualitative and quantitative methods to analyse data from both cities, focusing on participant demographics, support group activities, and post-participation feedback surveys. Urban youth in Durban showed an initial 45% adoption rate of green energy practices within the first year, with a notable increase in community engagement observed among participants. The study concludes that while both cities exhibit similar trends in green energy support group participation and uptake, specific social factors influence the extent of these changes. Policy makers are encouraged to tailor educational programmes for urban youth based on local cultural contexts to maximise adoption rates of green energy practices.
