Abstract

Urban youth engagement programmes in Accra aim to enhance civic participation among young people through various initiatives. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with quantitative surveys was employed to assess programme effectiveness and participant experiences. The review found a significant increase in civic engagement, particularly among participants who received direct support from the programmes (32% vs. 18%). Urban youth engagement programmes have successfully fostered increased civic participation, with notable improvements in community service and political awareness. Future initiatives should prioritise targeted support for underserved communities to maximise impact on civic participation.
