This study examines human rights implications of resource extraction projects in Nigerian societies, focusing on legal frameworks and their impact. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data collection (legal framework analysis) and qualitative data collection (case study reviews) was employed to investigate the human rights implications of resource extraction in Nigeria over a decade. The findings indicate that while there is significant variation in how different regions implement legal protections for affected communities, consistent themes emerge regarding violations of land rights, labour rights, and environmental standards. This study concludes by identifying the need for more robust enforcement mechanisms and harmonized legal frameworks to address human rights issues arising from resource extraction projects. Recommendations include strengthening judicial oversight, enhancing community participation in decision-making processes related to resource exploitation, and encouraging international best practices as models for local implementation.
