Abstract

The review focuses on legal frameworks governing refugees and asylum seekers in East Africa, with a specific emphasis on Uganda. A comprehensive review of relevant legislation, case law, and scholarly literature to evaluate existing legal provisions for refugees and asylum seekers. The analysis reveals a complex interplay between local and international legal frameworks, highlighting inconsistencies and gaps in protection mechanisms. There are significant disparities in the implementation of refugee laws across East African countries, with Uganda facing particular challenges in providing adequate support to displaced persons. Ugandan authorities should strengthen enforcement of existing laws and seek harmonization with international standards to improve the welfare of refugees and asylum seekers.
