Digital Literacy and Financial Empowerment Training for Rural Senegalese Smallholder Farmers in Nigeria: A Mixed-Methods Inquiry

Abstract

Digital literacy and financial empowerment are crucial for rural smallholder farmers in developing countries to access modern market opportunities. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative pre-post surveys with qualitative interviews to assess changes in participants' digital competencies and financial outcomes. Participants demonstrated a significant increase of 25% in basic digital skills post-training, translating into a 10% rise in mobile banking usage and a 7% reduction in transaction costs. The training programme effectively enhanced both the digital literacy and financial management capabilities of rural Senegalese smallholder farmers in Nigeria. Integrate ongoing support services to sustain the benefits of improved digital skills among participants, particularly focusing on women who showed more pronounced gains.
