Abstract

Natural resource governance in DRC has significant implications for local communities in Tanzania, where natural resources are often managed by central authorities without adequate consultation or participation from affected parties. A comprehensive survey research method was employed to gather data from legal experts, government officials, and community leaders in both DRC and Tanzania. Data were analysed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and themes related to governance practices and their effects on local communities. The findings indicate that while there are legislative frameworks in place, significant gaps exist in implementing these laws consistently across jurisdictions. Local communities often face challenges in accessing resources due to lack of legal protections and enforcement mechanisms. This study highlights the importance of harmonizing national laws with international standards and improving local participation in resource management decisions to better protect the rights of affected communities. Recommendations include strengthening legislative frameworks, enhancing community engagement, and providing technical support for implementation. Additionally, promoting regional cooperation could help bridge governance gaps between DRC and Tanzania.
