Abstract

Legal education plays a crucial role in fostering a robust rule of law and effective governance in Zimbabwe's legal system. This study employed semi-structured interviews with 30 participants including judges, lawyers, educators, and civil society representatives to understand their perspectives on legal education's impact on rule of law and governance. Participants highlighted the importance of a well-trained legal workforce in upholding justice impartially. Specifically, half reported that graduates from tertiary institutions are more likely to apply laws fairly compared to those without formal training. The findings suggest that enhancing legal education standards can significantly improve governance practices and ensure fairer application of laws. Policy makers should prioritise improving the quality and accessibility of legal education to align with international best practices in promoting a transparent and accountable government.
