Evaluating Government Employment Generation Programmes' Impact on Youth Unemployment Reduction in Nairobi, Kenya: Success Metrics Analysis
Abstract
Government employment generation programmes are crucial in addressing youth unemployment in Nairobi, Kenya, where high levels of underemployment and informal sector participation have been observed. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather data from participants in various government employment generation programmes across Nairobi. Data analysis included statistical tests for significance and thematic coding for qualitative insights. The survey revealed that while the majority of respondents reported positive experiences (75%), there were notable challenges such as limited job opportunities and insufficient funding, which hindered programme success. Despite initial successes, the programmes face significant obstacles in fully addressing youth unemployment. Recommendations include enhancing transparency and collaboration with private sector partners to expand employment opportunities. Enhanced communication strategies are recommended to improve transparency regarding programme outcomes and expected timelines. Additionally, fostering partnerships between government agencies and private enterprises can be pivotal for job creation.
