Frameworks in Comparative Competition Law across East African Community Countries
Abstract
This Policy Brief examines the competition law frameworks across East African Community (EAC) countries with a focus on Nigeria. A comparative legal analysis was conducted using secondary data sources such as official government documents and international standards like the World Trade Organisation (WTO) guidelines. The study found that while there are similarities in regulatory structures, significant variations exist in enforcement mechanisms and penalties across countries. Despite efforts towards harmonization, EAC member states face challenges in consistent application of competition laws due to differing legal frameworks. Recommendations include developing a regional code for competition law and enhancing cross-border cooperation among member states.
