Cyberlaw and Data Protection in Southern Africa: A Survey of Republic of Congo Contexts

Abstract
Cyberlaw and data protection are critical areas of law in Southern Africa, particularly relevant to emerging technologies such as digital platforms and online transactions. The study employed a structured questionnaire survey among a sample of legal practitioners, technology companies, and government officials to gather insights into current laws and proposed reforms. A notable finding was that while the Republic of Congo has established general data protection principles, there is significant room for improvement in specific areas such as enforcement mechanisms and penalties for non-compliance. The survey results highlight the need for more comprehensive legal frameworks to protect individuals' privacy rights and ensure accountability in digital transactions. It is recommended that the Congolese government collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement robust cyberlaw and data protection policies, including strengthening enforcement mechanisms and penalties.
