Abstract

In Rwanda, maternal mortality remains a significant health challenge despite recent improvements. Qualitative data from interviews with 50 community health workers (CHWs) across 10 villages were analysed using thematic analysis. Community CHWs reported a significant increase of 20% in the use of mobile apps for tracking maternal health indicators compared to baseline, indicating immediate effectiveness. Community CHWs' technology usage shows promise in preventing maternal deaths but requires further evaluation and integration into standard healthcare protocols. Immediate implementation of a robust training programme followed by sustained monitoring and support is recommended. Model estimation used $\hat{\theta}=argmin_{\theta}\sum_i\ell(y_i,f_\theta(x_i))+\lambda\lVert\theta\rVert_2^2$, with performance evaluated using out-of-sample error.
