Adaptive Education Schemas in Neurodevelopmental Disorders: A Comparative Study in Lagos, Nigeria

Abstract

Adaptive education schemas are crucial for enhancing learning outcomes in students with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). In Nigeria, particularly in Lagos, there is a growing need to tailor educational approaches that address the diverse needs of these students. A comparative case study approach was employed, involving a systematic review of existing literature and direct observation at three randomly selected schools. Data collection included interviews with educators, parents, and students, as well as analysis of curriculum materials. The findings indicate that while all schools used some form of adaptive education schema, the implementation varied significantly in terms of resource allocation and integration into daily classroom activities. This study highlights the importance of consistent training for educators and greater access to specialized resources to ensure equitable educational opportunities for students with NDDs. Recommendations include developing a standardised curriculum framework, increasing teacher training programmes focused on neurodevelopmental disorders, and establishing partnerships between schools and local health services.
