Civic Education Frameworks and Voter Turnout Among Urban Youth in Democratic Republic of Congo: A Theoretical Exploration

Abstract

Civic education programmes have been implemented in various countries to enhance voter turnout among young populations, but there is limited research on their impact in urban areas of developing democracies like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). A qualitative approach will be employed to analyse existing literature and empirical data on civic education initiatives and voter turnout rates among young people in urban DRC cities. Focus groups and interviews with educators and participants will inform the analysis. The theoretical framework proposed highlights the importance of consistent civic education programming and community engagement for effective electoral participation among youth in urban settings of developing nations. Further research should focus on replicating these findings across different regions and evaluating long-term effects. Policy makers could consider integrating civic education into existing youth development programmes to boost democratic processes.
