Abstract

Open data initiatives in Seychelles aim to enhance transparency and governance by making government information accessible and usable for public scrutiny. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with quantitative analysis of open data usage metrics was employed to assess the effectiveness of open data policies in promoting transparency and public trust in government activities. The study identified a positive correlation between increased access to open data (r = 0.85, p < 0.01) and higher levels of citizen engagement with government affairs, suggesting that more accessible information leads to greater participation in civic processes. Open data initiatives have significantly contributed to enhancing governance transparency in Seychelles by facilitating public understanding and trust in governmental operations. Further expansion of open data platforms should be considered to ensure comprehensive coverage of government activities, thereby strengthening the framework for citizen-centric governance.
