Abstract

Urban youth unemployment in Dakar's slums is a significant challenge. This study focuses on evaluating job creation programmes that incorporate technological interventions. Qualitative research methods were employed, including semi-structured interviews with participants, focus group discussions, and document analysis of programme guidelines and participant feedback. A notable theme emerged regarding the integration of digital skills training within programmes, which was seen as pivotal for enhancing employability among youth. The proportion of participants who reported improved job prospects after participation in these programmes stood at 45%. While technological interventions show promise, their impact on employment outcomes is not uniformly positive. Further research and tailored strategies are needed to maximise benefits. Programmes should prioritise continuous skill development aligned with current market demands and consider incorporating community engagement for broader acceptance.
