The African University Role in Knowledge Production and Dissemination Paradigms in Namibia
Abstract
The role of African universities in knowledge production and dissemination is increasingly recognised as a critical factor in the development of sustainable societies, particularly in resource-limited contexts such as Namibia. The research employs a mixed methods approach, combining qualitative interviews with quantitative surveys to gather data from university administrators, faculty members, and students in Namibia. Findings indicate that while universities are proactive in sharing knowledge through workshops and publications, there is a notable gap in translating this into practical applications within the broader community. The study concludes that enhancing institutional capacity for research translation could significantly improve the impact of university efforts on Namibian society. Recommendations include fostering stronger links between universities and local industries to ensure knowledge is better aligned with societal needs, and promoting continuous professional development among faculty members.
