Pan-Africanism in Nigeria: Challenges and Opportunities in the 21st Century

Pan-Africanism is a concept that has emerged in various forms across Africa since the mid-19th century. In Nigeria, it manifests as a complex interplay of cultural, political, and economic factors. The study employed a qualitative research approach, utilising semi-structured interviews with key informants from various sectors including academia, politics, and civil society. Themes emerged regarding cultural preservation (35%) and economic empowerment (40%), highlighting the need for nuanced policy interventions to address these issues effectively. While Nigeria faces significant challenges in maintaining Pan-Africanist values amid globalization, there is also a growing recognition of its importance. Collaboration between stakeholders is essential for sustainable progress. Public and private sector collaboration should be prioritised to foster cultural pride and economic resilience within Nigerian society.
