Enhancing Care Coordination in Urban Ghanaian Hospitals via Electronic Health Records: An African Perspective

Urban Ghanaian hospitals in Tanzania face challenges in care coordination due to fragmented healthcare systems. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including surveys, interviews, and observational studies. EHR data were analysed to identify patterns in care processes. Implementation of EHRs led to a significant improvement in documentation accuracy (95% confidence interval: 0.83-0.97) across all healthcare settings studied. The use of EHRs facilitated better communication and coordination among healthcare providers, resulting in improved patient care outcomes. Urban Ghanaian hospitals should prioritise the adoption of comprehensive EHR systems to enhance care coordination and improve patient safety. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
