Afrofuturism as a Framework for Analysing African Futures in Mozambique

Abstract

This article explores Afrofuturism as a theoretical framework to analyse African futures in Mozambique, focusing on the period from to . The analysis is based on a qualitative approach, drawing from existing academic literature and policy documents. A thematic framework grounded in Afrofuturism is employed to interpret these sources. Through this lens, it is evident that Afrofuturism highlights themes such as technological innovation and cultural reclamation, which have significant relevance for Mozambique’s development trajectory over the past decade. Afrofuturism offers a nuanced perspective on how to envision and shape the future of Africa in line with its rich cultural heritage and contemporary challenges. This framework can provide valuable insights into policy-making processes aimed at fostering sustainable development. Policy-makers should consider integrating Afrofuturist principles into their strategic planning, particularly regarding technological advancement and cultural preservation initiatives.
