Abstract

Cape Town hospitals face significant challenges in mental health care provision, including inadequate training for healthcare providers (HCPs). A mixed-methods approach will be employed, incorporating surveys and interviews to assess participants' knowledge gains and changes in practice behaviors. Patient satisfaction scores will also be collected. Participants showed a significant improvement (p < 0.05) in their ability to recognise mental health issues based on validated assessment tools. The workshops appear effective in enhancing HCPs' knowledge and skills, which may lead to better patient outcomes and more efficient service delivery. Future research should extend the evaluation across different hospitals and explore long-term effects of these interventions. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
