Mobile Money Platforms in Off-Grid Villages: A Study on Funding Clinical Trials in Kenya's North Rift Region

Abstract
Clinical trials in off-grid villages often face challenges related to funding due to limited access to traditional financial systems. A mixed-methods approach will be employed, including surveys and interviews with participants from off-grid villages to assess the use of mobile money platforms for trial funding. Mobile money platforms were found to significantly improve access to funds (75% reported easier access) compared to traditional methods in off-grid settings. The study concludes that mobile money platforms are a viable and effective method for supporting clinical trials in remote areas, enhancing accessibility and reducing costs. Healthcare providers should consider implementing mobile money solutions as part of their funding strategies for future clinical trials in off-remote regions.
