Telemedicine Platforms in Kenyan Healthcare Facilities: Effectiveness and Cost Analysis Over One Year

Abstract

Telemedicine platforms have been increasingly implemented in healthcare settings to address geographical barriers and resource constraints. A longitudinal study design was employed, with data collected from five randomly selected hospitals. Telemedicine led to a 25% reduction in travel time for patients compared to traditional face-to-face consultations (p < 0.01), and an estimated $10,000 annual savings per facility based on reduced transportation costs. The study concludes that telemedicine is effective in improving patient access to care while reducing costs. Investment in infrastructure and training for healthcare providers should be prioritised to maximise benefits from the implementation of telemedicine platforms.
