Abstract

Migrant communities in Durban, South Africa face unique challenges related to access to clean water, which can impact their overall health and healthcare utilization. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a cross-sectional survey of 200 participants and qualitative interviews with 15 community members. Participants reported that access to clean water significantly influenced their decision-making regarding preventive healthcare visits (p < 0.05). Access to clean water is crucial for promoting regular preventive healthcare utilization among migrant communities in Durban. Healthcare providers and policymakers should prioritise improving access to clean water in migrant communities to enhance preventive care uptake. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
