Abstract

The African University in Namibia operates within a context where there is a growing emphasis on fostering knowledge production and dissemination as critical drivers of economic development and societal progress. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, including literature reviews, interviews with key stakeholders from the academic sector, and analysis of existing policy documents. Data analysis revealed that while there is significant investment in research infrastructure at African universities in Namibia, consistent funding for dissemination activities remains insufficient. There is also a noted gap between theoretical outputs and practical application within certain disciplines. There is an urgent need to harmonize policy frameworks across various sectors of academia and industry to ensure that knowledge produced by the university system is effectively disseminated and utilised in regional development initiatives. Recommendations include increasing financial support for dissemination activities, integrating more practical training into curricula, and fostering closer collaboration between universities and local industries.
