Abstract

Youth identity in urban Zimbabwean societies is shaped by historical, cultural, and socio-economic factors, influencing their political participation. Qualitative research methods were employed through focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews with a sample of urban youth. Youth participants identified gender as a significant factor affecting their level of political engagement, with women showing lower levels compared to men. The findings suggest that efforts to increase political participation among young people should focus on addressing gender disparities and promoting inclusive policies. Interventions targeting youth in urban areas should incorporate gender-sensitive strategies to enhance their political voice.
