Boda Boda motorcycle riders are a significant part of Nairobi’s transportation system, but their safety standards have been subject to policy debate. A comprehensive analysis of traffic fatality data collected from Nairobi’s main roads and intersections, focusing on the impact of safety regulations implemented by local authorities. The findings indicate a decrease in fatal accidents involving Boda Boda riders after the implementation of new safety standards, with a notable reduction in fatalities attributed to improper helmet use and speeding violations. Current safety standards for Boda Boda motorcycles have shown promise in reducing traffic fatalities; however, further monitoring is required to ensure consistent compliance and effectiveness. Local authorities should continue enforcing existing standards and consider additional measures to enhance rider safety, such as increasing helmet availability and educating riders on safe driving practices.
