Gender Disparities in Maternal Healthcare Seeking Behaviors in Rural Mozambique: A Community Awareness Programme Impact Assessment
Abstract
Maternal healthcare seeking behaviors in rural Mozambique exhibit significant gender disparities. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys with qualitative focus groups was employed to evaluate changes in women's healthcare-seeking behaviors over time. The survey revealed that after the intervention, there was an increase of 15% (95% CI: 8-23%) in women who sought timely antenatal care compared to baseline data. Community awareness programmes can effectively address gender disparities in maternal healthcare seeking behaviors. Further evaluations and scaling-up of such interventions are recommended based on the observed positive impacts. Maternal Healthcare, Mozambique, Gender Disparities, Community Awareness, Antenatal Care Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
