Implementing Universal Basic Education Programmes in Urban Youth of Accra: An Analytical Study

Abstract

In Accra, urban youth face significant educational disparities compared to their rural counterparts, with access to basic education often limited and of poor quality. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with urban youth and quantitative analysis of programme enrollment data from government records. The proportion of urban youth enrolled in basic education programmes increased by 20% over the last five years, yet disparities remain based on socioeconomic status. Universal basic education programmes have shown modest success but require targeted interventions to address inequities. Implementing community-based support initiatives and expanding digital learning resources are recommended to further improve educational access in urban areas.
