African Universities' Role in Knowledge Production and Dissemination in Tanzania: A Socioeconomic Analysis

Abstract

In Tanzania, African universities play a significant role in knowledge production and dissemination across various disciplines. The analysis employs a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data on publications and qualitative interviews with university administrators and researchers. A notable theme emerging from the data is the substantial increase (25%) in interdisciplinary collaboration among Tanzanian universities over the last decade, facilitating more comprehensive knowledge production. Tanzanian universities are pivotal in driving socioeconomic progress through their research contributions, with a particular emphasis on enhanced inter-university collaboration as identified. To further strengthen these efforts, there is a need for increased funding and support for collaborative projects between Tanzanian universities and industry partners.
