Pan-Africanism in 21st Century Kenya: Challenges and Opportunities
Abstract
Pan-Africanism is a movement advocating for unity among African nations. Kenya, as part of Africa, has historically embraced Pan-African ideals but faces contemporary challenges and opportunities in its implementation. The research employs a qualitative approach, analysing policy documents, academic literature, and interviews with key stakeholders to assess the integration of Pan-Africanist principles within Kenyan governance and society. Pan-Africanism in Kenya is predominantly focused on socio-economic development initiatives that aim to bridge regional disparities. However, there are gaps in political advocacy for Pan-African policies across all governmental levels. While significant progress has been made in certain areas, the lack of comprehensive national-level Pan-Africanist policy frameworks remains a critical challenge. The government should prioritise developing and implementing cohesive Pan-Africanist strategies at every level of governance to enhance regional integration and development.
