Abstract

Urban youth in Lagos, Nigeria have been at the forefront of social justice movements, advocating for issues such as education reform and environmental protection. The research employs qualitative methods, including interviews with key informants and document analysis of government reports. A significant proportion (78%) of the interviewed youth reported changes in policy direction as a result of their activism, particularly concerning environmental protection legislation. Urban youth social justice movements have had substantial influence on Nigerian policy outcomes, with notable improvements in areas like education and environment. Policy makers should prioritise engagement with urban youth to ensure more effective implementation of policies aimed at addressing societal issues.
