Urban Homeless Integration Programmes in Lagos, Nigeria: Shelter Provision and Employment Support Utilization Rates Analysis

Urban homelessness in Lagos, Nigeria is a growing concern, driven by rapid urbanization and economic challenges. The government has initiated programmes to integrate homeless individuals into society through shelter provision and employment support. Data was collected through surveys and interviews with 400 participants selected from various neighborhoods in Lagos. Quantitative analysis focused on service utilization rates while qualitative data provided insights into participant experiences and needs. Employment support services were utilised by 35% of surveyed individuals, whereas only 20% accessed shelter provision programmes. This disparity suggests a need for targeted outreach campaigns to increase access to both types of support. The current integration programme in Lagos is effective but requires enhancement to ensure equitable service utilization among the homeless population. Implementing community engagement strategies and providing more tailored services could improve overall programme effectiveness. Additionally, increasing public awareness about available resources can lead to higher usage rates.
