Abstract

This action research study investigates the efficacy of integrating indigenous conflict resolution practices with formal peacebuilding frameworks in post-civil war South Sudan. Conducted in partnership with local peace committees in Central Equatoria State, the research employs iterative cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection to co-design and implement a hybrid mediation model. The study provides concrete evidence on the model's impact on local dispute resolution rates, inter-communal trust, and women's participation. It critically reflects on the challenges of scaling such community-led initiatives and offers practical recommendations for policymakers and practitioners seeking to ground national peace processes in locally legitimate praxis.
