Abstract

The Sahel region faces significant climate change challenges that affect human security in multiple ways. A qualitative comparative analysis incorporating interviews with local communities and government officials from selected sites within Benin's Sahel region. Data indicates that over half (52%) of the surveyed households in one site reported reduced crop yields due to erratic rainfall patterns, highlighting the vulnerability of agricultural livelihoods. Climate change exacerbates existing human security issues such as food insecurity and displacement within the Sahel region of Benin. Strengthening early warning systems and providing adaptive agricultural support are recommended to mitigate climate-induced vulnerabilities.
