Sahelian Human Security Vulnerabilities Amidst Climate Change Impacts

Abstract
The Sahel region in Ethiopia is facing significant climate change impacts, including erratic rainfall patterns and increased frequency of extreme weather events. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data analysis from government reports and qualitative interviews with local communities was employed to evaluate current conditions and future projections. The study reveals a 20% increase in reported cases of malnutrition among children under five years old compared to the previous decade, highlighting the direct impact on food security. Climate change is significantly impacting human security in the Sahelian region, particularly through exacerbating existing vulnerabilities such as water scarcity and health risks. Immediate interventions are required to mitigate climate-induced vulnerabilities, including enhancing agricultural resilience programmes and improving access to healthcare infrastructure.
